Sariva, also known as anantamul, is Indian sarsaparilla. It’s sweet, heavy, unctuous (oily), and bitter. It balances all three doshas, cleanses toxins in the skin and digestive tract, supports fertility, and aids respiratory and urinary health.
Hemidesmus indicus, Apocynaceae. Sometimes substituted for true, tropical sarsaparilla, Indian sarsaparilla is a climbing shrub common throughout the subcontinent. It is said that chewing the leaves of Indian sarsaparilla temporarily suppresses the ability to taste either sweet or bitter.
